Voters in Hanoi Advocate for Waste-to-Energy Solutions and Administrative Reforms at Meeting with General Secretary Tô Lâm
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: At a meeting on Tuesday with Party General Secretary Tô Lâm and a delegation of National Assembly (NA) deputies from Hanoi, voters from Ba Đình, Hai Bà Trưng, and Đống Đa districts proposed investing in waste-to-energy plants to transform rubbish into a sustainable energy source. They highlighted this initiative as a means to reduce dependence on costly, unreliable imported electricity and strengthen national energy security.
The meeting followed the conclusion of the 15th National Assembly’s eighth session. Voters expressed appreciation for the Party and State’s policies aimed at combating wastefulness, streamlining administrative structures, and building a clean, strong Party.
Voters urged the Government to promptly address inconsistencies and inadequacies in the current legal framework to ensure the effective implementation of laws passed during the eighth session. They called for a review and amendment of related laws and ordinances to eliminate overlaps and improve governance.
Regarding the NA Standing Committee’s resolution to reorganize district and commune-level administrative units in 12 provinces and cities between 2023 and 2025, voters emphasized the need for stringent measures to manage financial resources, public assets, and surplus office spaces, ensuring no waste or loss.
They also advocated for accelerated digital transformation and administrative reforms, proposing efficient, direct mechanisms for State-citizen interactions.
Environmental concerns took center stage, with voters urging authorities to adopt comprehensive waste sorting at the source, enhance recycling of inorganic waste, and use organic waste in agriculture to reduce treatment burdens.
Healthcare issues were also prominent, with voters highlighting persistent overcrowding at major hospitals like Bạch Mai and Việt Đức. They proposed better incentives for medical staff in remote areas and prioritizing local recruitment to build a high-quality core medical workforce.
In response, General Secretary Tô Lâm emphasized the importance of exceeding socio-economic targets for 2024, noting that this would set a strong foundation for achieving the goals for 2025 and the 2021-2026 period, and pave the way for progress following the 14th National Party Congress in early 2026.
He highlighted Vietnam’s achievements, including its ranking among the world’s top 40 largest economies and top 20 in trade and foreign investment. He praised the country’s diplomatic successes, living standard improvements, poverty reduction, and early attainment of Millennium Development Goals.
Tô Lâm outlined key tasks, including strengthening Party leadership, combating corruption and wastefulness, and reinforcing national unity. He reaffirmed the Party’s unwavering commitment to anti-corruption efforts, stressing that these measures would continue relentlessly to ensure a clean, strong political system serving the people.
He urged Hanoi authorities to enhance their efforts in meeting national expectations and instructed the city’s NA delegation to document voter concerns for prompt resolution by relevant central authorities.
This meeting underscored the commitment of Hanoi’s voters and leaders to advancing socio-economic development, environmental sustainability, and governance reforms, laying a path for a more prosperous future.
