Oman Participates in Global AI Summit on Africa 2025 in Kigali

Kigali, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the Global AI Summit on Africa 2025, which commenced today in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda, under the theme “AI and Africa’s Demographic Dividend: Reimagining Economic Opportunities for Africa’s Workforce.”

The two-day summit seeks to explore the latest developments, innovations, and technologies in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), while serving as a platform for knowledge exchange and international collaboration. The event also presents a valuable opportunity to promote investment prospects in Oman’s AI sector and to enhance cooperation with global technology companies.

Oman’s delegation to the summit was led by Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology. The delegation included senior officials from the ministry and representatives from prominent Omani technology enterprises, including ITCHA Group, Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), and Oman Data Park.

The summit brought together over 1,000 participants from 95 countries, including policymakers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors, as well as representatives from more than 100 AI companies. The overarching goal is to foster AI innovation and ensure that strategic policies are aligned to enhance Africa’s technological capabilities, promote competitiveness, and support inclusive economic growth.

A major highlight of the summit was the launch of the Africa AI Council, an initiative aimed at steering the continent’s AI development and setting long-term ambitions for regional advancement in the sector. The event featured a series of panel discussions and technical workshops, along with an exhibition showcasing the products and services of more than 100 innovative AI companies from across Africa.

In a key sideline meeting, Dr. Al Shidhani held talks with Paula Ingabire, Minister of Communications, Information Technology and Innovation of Rwanda. The two officials discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of information and communication technology and reviewed Rwanda’s progress in digital transformation.

Oman’s participation in the summit underscores its commitment to global digital innovation and reflects its growing interest in leveraging AI to diversify the national economy, enhance technological capacities, and create future-ready job opportunities.
