PM Shehbaz, Iranian President Pezeshkian Vow to Strengthen Bilateral Ties Following Islamabad Peace Deal

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday received a telephone call from Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, marking the first contact between the two leaders since the signing of the historic Islamabad Peace Deal.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the conversation lasted more than 30 minutes and focused on regional peace, bilateral relations, and future cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.

During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Pezeshkian, the Iranian leadership, and the people of Iran on the signing of the landmark peace agreement. He described the deal as a significant step toward restoring peace and stability in the region and expressed confidence that it would contribute to Iran’s reconstruction and further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations across a wide range of sectors.

The prime minister also conveyed his respectful regards to Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran.

Commending Iran’s decision to sign the agreement, Prime Minister Shehbaz wished the Iranian side success in the upcoming phase of negotiations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for Iran as a brotherly and neighbouring country.

President Pezeshkian, on behalf of the Iranian nation and in his personal capacity, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their pivotal role in facilitating the mediation process. He praised Pakistan’s efforts, describing them as sincere, constructive and instrumental in ensuring the success of the peace initiative.

The Iranian president stated that Iran would always remember Pakistan’s support and positive contribution during a challenging period and emphasized Tehran’s desire to further expand bilateral cooperation with Islamabad in all areas of mutual interest.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and enhancing cooperation on regional and international issues. They agreed to exchange visits to each other’s capitals at the earliest opportunity to build upon the positive momentum generated by the peace agreement and advance collaboration in political, economic and strategic fields.

The two leaders also agreed to remain in close contact in the coming days as efforts continue to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.
