President Mirziyoyev Visits Polytechnic in Navbahor District
Navoi Region, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid a working visit to Polytechnic No. 2 in Navbahor District, Navoi Region, underscoring the nation’s commitment to enhancing employment through specialized training and skill development. The President’s visit highlighted the significant role of vocational education in addressing Uzbekistan’s employment challenges, with 25 professional institutions currently operating in Navoi Region, providing training to over 12,000 students. These institutions are staffed by qualified educators and 234 masters of industrial training who ensure rigorous skill development.
Polytechnic No. 2, where the President engaged with students and faculty, boasts 41 classrooms, a laboratory, assembly and sports halls with a combined capacity of 350 people, a dormitory accommodating 100 students, and a canteen. The polytechnic offers versatile training programs, including daytime, evening, correspondence, and dual modalities to accommodate school graduates and adults alike. This flexibility is particularly important for unemployed citizens, individuals with limited qualifications, and women seeking employment, who are encouraged to participate in these programs through partnerships with local communities, or mahallas.
In collaboration with prominent industrial enterprises, such as Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company, Navoiazot JSC, and the Navoi Thermal Power Plant, the polytechnic provides practical training aligned with regional economic needs. Students specializing in welding, chemistry, electrical fitting, and related fields gain hands-on experience and receive wages for their work, positioning them as skilled candidates for the region’s workforce. Those who excel in their training often secure employment directly with these companies.
President Mirziyoyev also held discussions with female students at the polytechnic, encouraging them to embrace the opportunities offered. “I am glad to see that you have confidence and aspiration. Master a profession and find your place in life. We will support you so that you find happiness in work,” he stated, affirming his administration’s commitment to workforce inclusivity.
Further initiatives include dual and short-term courses launched in partnership with textile companies Mengi Textile Group and Navbahor Qorajon. These courses enable women to acquire skills in sewing, increasing their employability in local workshops. Additionally, students are trained in carpentry, producing doors, tables, and chairs to meet regional demand while supplementing their household income. Specialized programs in national handicrafts are also available to people with disabilities, and training centers for veterinary and livestock professionals further enhance the qualifications of sector specialists.
To date, the region’s educational institutions have formalized cooperation agreements with 51 local enterprises, leading to the training of over 1,000 previously unemployed citizens this year. Through these initiatives, Navoi Region continues to strengthen its vocational and technical training landscape, promoting sustainable employment and economic resilience.
