President Rahmon, Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze Hold Comprehensive Bilateral Discussions

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held high-level talks in Dushanbe on Friday, focusing on expanding political dialogue, strengthening economic cooperation, and enhancing collaboration on regional and international issues.

Prime Minister Kobakhidze is visiting Tajikistan on an official visit at the head of a high-ranking Georgian delegation. The meeting took place at the Palace of the Nation, where the two leaders reviewed the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations and exchanged views on key regional and global developments.

During the discussions, both sides underscored the importance of intensifying political dialogue and maintaining constructive contacts at various levels. They also highlighted the need to expand inter-parliamentary cooperation and strengthen the role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing relations between the two countries.

Economic and trade cooperation featured prominently in the negotiations. The leaders discussed the implementation of joint investment projects, the establishment of production chains in promising sectors of the economy, and the development of e-commerce.

The two sides also identified several priority areas for future cooperation, including the joint use of interregional transit corridors, collaboration in agriculture, light industry, food processing, and pharmaceuticals, as well as partnerships in technological innovation, including artificial intelligence and the development of a green economy.

In the humanitarian sphere, special attention was devoted to expanding cooperation in science, education, tourism, healthcare, culture, youth policy, and sports.

Both parties welcomed the signing of a substantial package of bilateral agreements during the Georgian prime minister’s visit, noting that the documents would further strengthen the legal framework governing cooperation between the two countries.

Particular significance was attached to the signing of an Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, which is expected to serve as a key mechanism for advancing bilateral economic ties.

President Rahmon expressed confidence that the commission would contribute significantly to implementing practical measures aimed at developing the agreed areas of cooperation and fostering broader bilateral engagement.

On international and regional issues, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continued constructive cooperation on the global stage, including closer coordination within the United Nations and its specialized agencies. Special emphasis was placed on addressing global water and climate-related challenges.

Following the talks, President Rahmon and Prime Minister Kobakhidze held a joint press conference, where they announced that 11 bilateral agreements had been signed during the visit.

The agreements cover a wide range of sectors, including civil aviation, agriculture, tourism, education, culture, sports, climate change, and other areas of mutual interest, reflecting the shared commitment of Tajikistan and Georgia to strengthening long-term partnership and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.
