President Serdar Berdimuhamedov Stresses Expansion of Textile Production and Market Efficiency at Cabinet Meeting

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has underscored the need to expand the assortment and increase the production volume of the country’s textile industry, during the latest meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on Saturday. The announcement was made via official state media.

During the session, President Berdimuhamedov also emphasized the importance of incorporating international best practices to enhance the operations of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Relevant directives were issued to Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Nokerguly Atagulyyev, who oversees the country’s trade and economic development sectors.

According to Deputy Chairman Atagulyyev’s report, Turkmenistan demonstrated positive economic trends in the first quarter of 2025. Trade turnover under the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations grew by 13%, while overall production increased by 1.2%.

The textile sector in particular achieved notable success, with a growth rate of 14.2%. Key areas of production also saw significant year-on-year increases: cotton yarn production rose by 42.9%, fabric output by 50.9%, sewing and knitwear products by 4.3%, and leather goods by 40.4%.

The State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange remained active during the reporting period, holding 72 trading sessions and recording 6,878 transactions. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry also registered a 2.1% increase in its overall performance.

Private enterprise, represented by the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, continued its upward trajectory. Agricultural and food production saw a 7.1% increase, while industrial production rose by 4.3%.

The government meeting also reviewed the broader results of national activities conducted in the first three months of the year, as part of Turkmenistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen economic development and industrial diversification.
