President Tokayev Emphasizes Transparency in Ongoing Constitutional Reform

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was briefed on Friday on the ongoing work related to the draft of Kazakhstan’s new Constitution, the presidential press service Akorda said.
According to the statement, the Head of State received Elvira Azimova, Chairperson of the Constitutional Commission and Chairperson of the Constitutional Court; Erlan Karin, Deputy Chairperson of the Commission and State Counselor; and Yerzhan Zhienbayev, Member of the Commission and Assistant to the President on Legal Issues.
During the meeting, Azimova reported that the draft of the new Basic Law, published for public review through the eGov and e-Otinish digital platforms, has received more than 4,000 submissions from citizens. She noted that public feedback has largely been supportive, with respondents emphasizing that the draft corresponds to contemporary realities and reflects the interests of society. Political parties, along with national and regional civic associations, have also expressed support for the adoption of the new Constitution.
President Tokayev underscored the importance of maintaining an open and transparent approach in the work of the Constitutional Commission, stressing that citizens should remain fully informed about the discussions and be able to study the provisions of the proposed Basic Law in detail.
The Head of State instructed that all proposals submitted by experts and members of the public must continue to be examined carefully and comprehensively.
Azimova further informed the President that members of the Constitutional Commission will proceed with refining the wording of specific articles and clauses of the draft Constitution.
The Constitutional Commission is scheduled to hold its next sessions on Saturday, February 7, and again next week.
