President Tokayev Meets Russian Prime Minister Mishustin in Astana

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin in Astana. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council session and the Digital Almaty 2025 Forum.

Discussions focused on the prospects for strengthening the Kazakh-Russian strategic partnership, with special attention to trade, economic, and investment cooperation, including collaboration within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

President Tokayev commended Mishustin’s personal contribution to fostering friendly and neighborly ties between the two countries. He underscored the importance of implementing agreements reached during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Astana on November 27.

“Relations between our countries are on the rise and encompass almost all spheres of cooperation. We consider your visit to Astana as an important stage in the implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level. During Vladimir Putin’s visit to Kazakhstan, the regional forum in Ufa was successfully held. This year, we plan to organize another forum in Uralsk, Kazakhstan. I believe this format of cooperation will yield meaningful results,” Tokayev stated.

Mishustin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to fulfilling the tasks set by both presidents. He emphasized the importance of the regional forum, highlighting the direct interactions between Russian and Kazakh regions.

“Kazakhstan is our closest neighbor and ally. Our relations are built on the principles of friendship and mutual respect,” Mishustin noted.

The Russian Prime Minister also briefed President Tokayev on the outcomes of recent negotiations between the two governments. He stressed that the agreements reached across multiple sectors would enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in energy, industry, transport infrastructure, and agriculture.

The leaders also discussed key issues related to scientific-technical collaboration and cultural-humanitarian exchanges.

Additionally, President Tokayev confirmed his acceptance of President Putin’s invitation to attend events marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Earlier reports indicated Kazakhstan’s intention to expand wheat exports and other agricultural projects to Europe through Russian territory, further strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
