Rafah Border Crossing to Reopen with European and Palestinian Observers

North Sinai, The Gulf Observer: The Rafah border crossing with Gaza will reopen within days, according to North Sinai Governor Khaled Mojawer. The crossing, which is crucial for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, will be operational with the presence of European and Palestinian observers.

Governor Mojawer stated that the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing is fully prepared for operation. However, he noted that the Palestinian side has been impacted by damage caused by Israeli military operations. He emphasized that once repairs are completed, the terminal will reopen in both directions.

The governor also underscored the importance of adhering to the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which took effect on January 19, to ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid.

The Rafah crossing, a key route for aid into Gaza, has been closed since May 2024 following Israel’s ground offensive in the southern city of Rafah. The planned reopening is seen as a significant step toward alleviating the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
