Rubio: US Remains Fully Committed to Supporting Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Process
Washington, The Gulf Observer: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to working with Armenia and Azerbaijan as the two countries build on the foundation laid by their historic peace breakthrough.
In a statement marking the first anniversary of the Washington Summit, Rubio said the United States had worked closely with Armenia and Azerbaijan over the past year to translate the commitments reached at the summit into tangible progress.
Rubio recalled that U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House on Aug. 8, 2025, where the leaders witnessed the signing of a historic Joint Declaration aimed at ending decades of conflict in the South Caucasus.
The U.S. Secretary of State highlighted the progress made under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), a multimodal connectivity initiative designed to modernize railways, highways, energy and digital infrastructure in the region. Engineering surveys for railway infrastructure in Armenia are already underway, while Azerbaijan is nearing completion of roads and railways intended to connect with Armenia.
According to Rubio, the peace process has opened new opportunities for stronger relations among the United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan, while creating prospects for greater regional connectivity, economic development and prosperity.
“As Armenia and Azerbaijan move forward on this foundation, the United States remains fully committed to working with them,” Rubio said, congratulating both countries on the courage and vision they have demonstrated over the past year.
He expressed confidence that continued cooperation would contribute to achieving a solid and lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
