Shooting Incident at White House Correspondents’ Dinner; Suspect in Custody, President Trump Safe

Washington, The Gulf Observer: A shooting incident occurred during a reception hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Saturday evening, prompting a swift security response. Authorities confirmed that one individual has been taken into custody, while no members of the U.S. administration were injured.
According to the United States Secret Service, the incident took place near the main security screening area of the venue. Law enforcement agencies, including the Metropolitan Police Department, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
U.S. President Donald Trump, who was attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner for the first time, was safely evacuated from the venue along with other attendees following the incident. In a statement shared on Truth Social, the president commended the rapid response of security personnel.
“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and law enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended,” Trump stated. He later confirmed that the First Lady, Vice President, and Cabinet members were all safe and unharmed.
The Secret Service noted that the condition of those directly involved in the incident remains under assessment. Eyewitness footage from the event showed attendees taking cover as gunshots were reportedly heard inside the ballroom.
The White House Correspondents’ Association announced that the annual dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days in light of the incident.
The Washington Hilton Hotel, where the event was held, is historically notable as the site of the 1981 assassination attempt on former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, when gunman John Hinckley Jr. opened fire, injuring Reagan and several others.
Authorities have assured that the situation is under control, and further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
