Tajik Academy of Sciences and IAEA Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Research, Water Resources, and Cancer Care

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: The President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Qobiljon Khushvakhtzoda, held talks with a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency led by Ms. Steskal Sandra Marie to discuss scientific and technical cooperation, according to the National Academy of Sciences.
The meeting focused on the implementation of joint projects aimed at advancing scientific research and educational initiatives in the fields of water resources and glacier studies. The participants exchanged views on strengthening collaboration in the application of nuclear technologies to address environmental challenges, improve water resource management, and support climate change research.
Particular attention was given to the modernization of the country’s cancer treatment centers through the introduction of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Both sides emphasized the importance of technical assistance from the IAEA in enhancing the capacity of Tajikistan’s healthcare sector, especially in oncology services.
Khushvakhtzoda expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Tajikistan and the IAEA, noting that the expansion of scientific partnerships and the implementation of joint projects would contribute significantly to strengthening the country’s research capabilities and addressing key socio-economic challenges.
For their part, the IAEA representatives reaffirmed their commitment to continuing productive cooperation with Tajikistan’s scientific and research institutions, including the Academy’s Agency for Chemical, Biological, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety. The delegation also praised the achievements of Tajik scientists in the study of water resources and glaciers.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed readiness to further expand cooperation and launch new joint initiatives in scientific research, environmental protection, healthcare, and the peaceful application of nuclear technologies.
