Tajik President Highlights Climate Threats, Calls for Joint Action at Regional Ecological Summit

Ecological Summit

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has underscored the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation to address mounting environmental challenges, as he addressed the Regional Ecological Summit on climate change and sustainable development in Astana.

Speaking at the high-level gathering, Rahmon highlighted that climate change, accelerated glacier melting, and increasing water scarcity are emerging as critical threats not only to Central Asia but to the global community at large. He warned that the region is particularly vulnerable to climate-related impacts, including the rising frequency of natural disasters, intensifying dust storms, and widespread ecosystem degradation.

The Tajik president stressed that developing countries require greater international support to effectively confront these challenges. He called for increased climate financing, wider adoption of green technologies, and a coordinated transition toward low-carbon economies.

Rahmon also drew attention to Tajikistan’s national efforts in environmental protection, including initiatives aimed at preserving glaciers, expanding protected conservation areas, and implementing sustainable development programs.

Concluding his remarks, President Rahmon urged the international community to strengthen both regional and global partnerships, emphasizing that collective action is essential to mitigate climate risks and ensure long-term environmental security.
