Tajikistan Calls for Enhanced Tourism Collaboration at SCO Meeting

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Jamshed Jumakhonzoda, Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development of Tajikistan, participated in a meeting of heads of tourism administrations from member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, where discussions focused on strengthening tourism collaboration and promoting sustainable growth across the region.
According to media reports, participants reviewed avenues for enhancing tourism cooperation within the SCO framework, including initiatives to showcase the tourism potential of member states and advance sustainable tourism development.
Addressing the meeting, Jumakhonzoda подчеркнул that tourism cooperation plays a vital role in fostering mutual trust, expanding humanitarian linkages, and supporting sustainable economic integration among SCO countries. He called for the adoption of more practical cooperation mechanisms, including the development of cross-border tourism routes, promotion of a unified SCO tourism space, and increased public-private partnerships.
The Tajik side also proposed expanding collaboration in sustainable and mountain tourism, highlighting the country’s rich natural landscape and growing tourism infrastructure. In this context, Tajikistan invited member states to participate in the International Tourism Forum and Exhibition “Khatlon – Land of Traditions and Tourism,” scheduled for June 4–5, 2026, in the Khatlon Region, as well as the Dushanbe International Tourism Exhibition set to take place in September.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Tajik and Uzbek delegations held bilateral discussions aimed at further strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector.
The session concluded with the signing of a protocol by the heads of SCO tourism administrations, reaffirming their commitment to deepening regional tourism cooperation and advancing joint initiatives.
