Tanzila Narbayeva Delivers Address at CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Session
Saint Petersburg, The Gulf Observer: A delegation from the Parliament of Uzbekistan, led by Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva, participated in the 57th Session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly held in Saint Petersburg. During the session, Chairperson Narbayeva presented several key initiatives developed by Uzbekistan, emphasizing the country’s commitment to enhancing parliamentary cooperation and democratic governance within the CIS region.
The meeting underscored the pivotal role of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in promoting democratic principles, advancing parliamentarism, and strengthening civil society institutions. The Assembly’s observer missions have successfully monitored over 100 election campaigns, with Uzbek parliamentarians actively contributing to these efforts.
A key topic discussed was the work of the Advisory Council of Heads of Electoral Bodies, which was established at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan. This body plays a crucial role in supporting the democratic process and promoting election integrity across the region.
Delegates from Uzbekistan expressed their support for the Assembly’s recommendations, which focus on bolstering multilateral cooperation, advancing legislative initiatives, and aligning with Uzbekistan’s national interests.
During the session, Chairperson Narbayeva also held bilateral meetings with prominent leaders, including Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairperson of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Both leaders congratulated Narbayeva on her recent election as Chairperson of the Senate and expressed their hopes for continued collaboration with the Parliament of Uzbekistan.
The discussions during the meetings focused on expanding interparliamentary cooperation, implementing high-level agreements, and establishing effective dialogue between regional legislative bodies. The implementation of crucial tasks on the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly’s agenda and the development of interparliamentary relations were also key points of the conversations.
