Trump Considers Deployment of U.S. Marines to Los Angeles Amid Ongoing Protests

Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that his administration is considering the deployment of Marine Corps troops to Los Angeles, California, should the ongoing protests in the city be deemed a threat to national security and public safety, according to media reports.
Speaking to journalists before departing from New Jersey en route to Maryland, President Trump emphasized that the federal government stands ready to take decisive action if necessary. His remarks come in response to recent protests in Los Angeles against the deportation of undocumented immigrants, some of which have reportedly escalated into violent incidents.
“If we see a threat to our country, to our citizens, we will act very decisively to ensure law and order,” President Trump said, when asked about the conditions under which Marines might be deployed to assist in maintaining security.
The President noted that the situation in Los Angeles is being closely monitored by federal authorities. “We were watching closely what happened in Los Angeles last night. There was a lot of violence, and it could have been much worse,” he remarked. “We are not going to allow such things to happen in our country.”
The potential deployment of military forces for domestic law enforcement purposes is likely to draw significant scrutiny and debate, particularly in light of constitutional limitations and the Posse Comitatus Act. However, the administration has signaled its intent to respond forcefully to what it perceives as threats to national stability.
