Turkmenistan, UN-Habitat Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Urban Development

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: A meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on May 25, 2026, between Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova and Erfan Ali, Regional Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Erfan Ali arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the 25th Multi-sector International Exhibition and Conference “White City Ashgabat” (WCA 2026).

During the meeting, both sides noted the steady progress in cooperation between Turkmenistan and UN-Habitat and underscored the importance of the partnership within the framework of the country’s engagement with the United Nations.

The discussions focused on the implementation of previously reached agreements and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. The two sides also highlighted the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of Turkmenistan and UN-Habitat, which provides the legal framework for expanding collaboration.

The Turkmen side stressed the importance of preparing and submitting the draft Country Cooperation Programme for 2026–2030, which is expected to outline key areas of future interaction between the two sides.

The meeting also included discussions on organizing further consultations and expanding practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
