Turkmenistan's Mejlis to Convene on April 12 to Review Key Legislative Amendments

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan is set to hold its upcoming session today, during which deputies will deliberate on proposed amendments and additions to a number of national laws and legislative acts. The announcement was made by Mejlis Speaker Dunyagozel Gulmanova during a Cabinet of Ministers meeting held on Friday, according to official state media.

The session’s agenda features the review of a new draft of the Law “On the Judiciary,” aimed at strengthening the legal framework and enhancing the functioning of the country’s judicial system. Legislators will also consider Turkmenistan’s accession to the 1988 Protocol to the 1966 International Convention on Load Lines, a key international agreement related to maritime safety.

In addition, parliamentarians will examine proposed legislative amendments concerning the establishment of a commemorative medal marking the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Pyragy, the esteemed Turkmen poet and philosopher.

Other legal acts under review include laws “On Administrative Procedures,” “On Road Transport,” and “On Migration,” reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to improve governance, transportation infrastructure, and migration policy.

The Cabinet meeting also addressed a number of issues of national importance, with appropriate resolutions adopted to support the country’s socio-economic development and institutional reforms.
