UAE Advances as Global Leader in Children’s Rights, Says H.H. Sheikha Latifa
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The UAE has made significant strides in protecting children’s rights and welfare, setting a global example in child protection, according to H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Speaking at the World Early Childhood Development (WED) Forum in Abu Dhabi, Sheikha Latifa emphasized the UAE’s dedication to nurturing future generations through progressive legislation and initiatives that elevate children’s roles in society.
The Forum, which runs from October 30-31 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, aims to foster collaboration in early childhood development. This two-day event is part of Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Week and focuses on practical solutions that advance children’s development both locally and globally.
In her keynote address, Sheikha Latifa outlined the Forum’s three strategic pillars: Intentional Parenting, Culture and Identity, and Sustainable, Family-Friendly Cities. She stressed the importance of these pillars in cultivating a strong sense of identity among children, rooted in authentic values and cultural heritage. She called for enhanced research, data, and studies within the Arab world to further early childhood education.
“We must commit to creating educational content that resonates with young minds, harnessing technology to inspire curiosity and creativity,” she said, encouraging efforts to fill gaps left by conventional approaches with enriching experiences through education, art, and diverse media content.
Additionally, Sheikha Latifa emphasized the significance of language in identity formation, noting Arabic as a foundation of history and heritage. Strengthening Arabic fluency among children, she explained, anchors them deeply in their national identity while broadening their understanding of the world.
The WED Forum, featuring over 30 interactive sessions, workshops, and panel discussions, has gathered 50 distinguished speakers across 20 sectors, including notable figures like Sheikha Hala Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Sheikh Dr. Majid Sultan Al Qassimi, and Minister Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy.
