New York, The Gulf Observer: After the killing and wounding of dozens in Israeli attacks on two schools in Gaza, the heads of several major United Nations (UN) bodies stressed the need to stop attacks on schools, children and shelters, and called for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.
Adele Khader, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa said that the scenes of death and destruction following the attacks on the Al-Fakhoura and Tal Al-Zaatar schools in Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of many children and women, are horrific.
She stressed the need to stop these horrific attacks immediately, and said that children, schools and shelters are not targets.
For his part, Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UNRWA said that he received “horrifying images and footage of scores of people killed and injured in another UNRWA school in which thousands of displaced people are sheltering in the northern Gaza Strip.” On the X platform, Lazzarini stressed that “these attacks cannot become commonplace, they must stop. A humanitarian ceasefire cannot wait any longer.”
