Vietnam, Indonesia Reaffirm Strategic Partnership in High-Level Talks
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn held a telephone discussion with Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono on February 10, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Minister Sugiono extended Lunar New Year greetings to Vietnam’s leaders and people, expressing hope that the strategic partnership between the two nations would continue to flourish and reach new heights in 2025. He emphasized Indonesia’s high regard for its relationship with Vietnam and proposed deepening cooperation in various fields, including joint initiatives to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations (December 30, 1955 – 2025).
Deputy PM Sơn expressed gratitude for the warm wishes and acknowledged the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia, which has been built on a strong foundation established by President Hồ Chí Minh, President Sukarno, and successive leaders of both nations. He commended the steady progress in bilateral cooperation, highlighting increased political trust and deepening collaboration in trade, investment, security, defense, and people-to-people exchanges. He also noted the two countries’ effective policy coordination at multilateral forums.
Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and implement the common perceptions reached by their leaders. In the immediate future, they will enhance high-level exchanges, particularly during Vietnam’s hosting of the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) on February 25-26 and the Summit of the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) on April 16-17.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation at regional and international forums, particularly within ASEAN and the United Nations, to uphold ASEAN’s central role in regional affairs.
On this occasion, Sơn reiterated his invitation for Minister Sugiono to visit Vietnam at the earliest opportunity, an offer which Sugiono graciously accepted.
