Trần Thanh Mẫn

Tokyo, The Gulf Observer: Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, Trần Thanh Mẫn, along with his spouse Nguyễn Thị Thanh Nga and a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday evening for a five-day official visit at the invitation of President of the House of Councillors Sekiguchi Masakazu and his spouse.

Welcoming the delegation at Haneda Airport were Senator Makino and officials from the Japanese House of Councillors, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Phạm Quang Hiệu, and representatives of the Vietnamese community.

This visit underscores the growing strength of the Vietnam-Japan relationship, which has evolved into a model of bilateral cooperation. Japan remains Vietnam’s leading economic partner, its largest provider of official development assistance (ODA), and ranks second in labour cooperation, third in investment and tourism, and fourth in trade. In 2023, the two nations celebrated 50 years of diplomatic ties, elevating their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world.

During his visit, Chairman Mẫn will engage in talks with President Sekiguchi Masakazu of the House of Councillors and Speaker Nugaka Fukuhiro of the House of Representatives. He will meet with Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and pay a courtesy call to Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.

Additionally, Mẫn will hold meetings with leaders of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, key political parties, economic organizations, and local authorities with strong ties to Vietnam. His agenda also includes visits to the Vietnamese Embassy in Tokyo, the Consulate General in Fukuoka, and discussions with Vietnamese community representatives.

A significant highlight of the visit will be the signing of a cooperation agreement between Vietnam’s NA and Japan’s House of Councillors, aimed at enhancing legislative collaboration between the two countries.

This visit not only demonstrates Vietnam’s commitment to deepening legislative ties but also reaffirms its dedication to the Vietnam-Japan comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and beyond.
