Uzbekistan and Belarus Strengthen Parliamentary Cooperation with New Initiatives

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: In a significant development, Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with Natalia Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, to discuss the continued strengthening of political dialogue and cooperative efforts between the two nations. The meeting underscored the importance of maintaining active political engagement and constructive collaboration on international platforms.

During the talks, both leaders highlighted the vital role that their respective parliaments play within international parliamentary organizations, particularly within the framework of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The discussion further emphasized the dynamic interaction between representatives of the two countries in fostering mutual understanding and collaboration.

A key outcome of the meeting was the renaming of the commission dedicated to bilateral relations as the Inter-Parliamentary Commission of the Senate for Cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. This rebranding reflects the deepening ties and the commitment of both sides to enhancing legislative collaboration.

In addition to parliamentary cooperation, the discussions also covered a broad range of topics, including lawmaking, gender and youth policies, the exchange of expertise in education and healthcare, the expansion of regional ties, and the digital development of regions. The two sides also considered the significance of hosting the Uzbekistan – Belarus Women’s Business Forum, which is expected to further bolster economic and social ties between the nations.

Concluding the meeting, the heads of the chambers of parliament from both countries signed an Action Plan for the development of cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for the period of 2024-2025. This strategic plan lays the groundwork for continued partnership and mutual support in various sectors over the coming years.

The meeting between Narbayeva and Kochanova marks a pivotal step in enhancing the long-standing relationship between Uzbekistan and Belarus, promising greater collaboration and mutual benefits for both nations.
