Uzbekistan and Pakistan Election Commissions Meet to Discuss Electoral Reforms

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Representatives from a delegation led by Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner, Sikandar Sultan Raja, recently visited the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan. The delegation engaged in discussions with CEC Chairman Zayniddin Nizamkhodjayev, who outlined recent reforms introduced into Uzbekistan’s Election Code. Key among these changes is the adoption of a mixed electoral system for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, which now combines both majority and proportional representation.

Chairman Nizamkhodjayev highlighted the benefits of the “E-Saylov” information system, which has been integrated into Uzbekistan’s electoral framework. This advanced system is designed to enhance transparency and efficiency in election processes. Additionally, the chairman emphasized ongoing initiatives aimed at the professional development of election commission members at all levels, which are aligned with Uzbekistan’s Concept of Professional Development.

During the exchange, both parties recognized the historical ties between Uzbekistan and Pakistan and underscored the importance of further strengthening these relations. The Pakistani delegation expressed satisfaction with Uzbekistan’s efforts to prioritize citizens’ interests in the electoral process. They also commended the high level of public awareness and participation in Uzbekistan’s elections, reflecting the nation’s commitment to democratic engagement.
