Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Ear Diseases and Surgery Team at University Medical City, represented by Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, has achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of the Cochlear Implant and Bone Hearing Aids Program. This initiative has already benefited patients through four cochlear implant surgeries and five bone hearing aid implantations.

The program aims to enhance therapeutic services for individuals with hearing loss, significantly improving their quality of life. Its establishment involved extensive coordination and preparation by the ear surgery team, audiologists, balance specialists, and speech therapists. Additionally, comprehensive psychological and behavioral assessments, anesthesia evaluations, and contributions from the radiology department were integral to the program’s implementation.

The Ear Diseases and Surgery Team’s efforts are focused not only on elevating community healthcare standards but also on enriching educational and medical training for students of medicine and health sciences. Trainee doctors affiliated with the Oman Medical Specialty Board’s Ear, Nose, and Throat Program stand to benefit from the enhanced practical training and educational services offered through this initiative.

With this program’s launch, the team aspires to establish a specialized hearing rehabilitation unit that provides innovative solutions both locally and internationally. This vision aims to make the Sultanate of Oman a distinguished destination for medical education and advanced hearing care solutions.
