Portuguese President Begins Official Visit to Slovenia to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Ljubljana, The Gulf Observer: President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, commenced a three-day official visit to Slovenia today at the invitation of his Slovenian counterpart, Nataša Pirc Musar. This marks his second official visit to Slovenia, following his visit in 2021, when both countries assumed the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The visit began with a meeting with the Portuguese community in Slovenia, one of the republics of the former Yugoslavia. Tomorrow, President Rebelo de Sousa will be formally received by President Pirc Musar at the Presidential Palace in Ljubljana. The two heads of state are expected to hold a joint press conference after signing a memorandum of understanding on tourism, aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
Additionally, President Rebelo de Sousa will attend a working lunch hosted by Slovenia’s Prime Minister, Robert Golob, and meet with the Vice-President of the National Assembly, Danijel Krivec. He is also scheduled to visit the biotechnology hub of the National Institute of Biology, participate in the Portugal-Slovenia Economic Forum—focusing on health and the auto industry—and conclude the day with a dinner hosted by the Slovenian president.
On Wednesday, both presidents will take part in an interactive session with students from the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) in the coastal town of Piran. The visit will conclude just before President Rebelo de Sousa returns to Portugal, coinciding with the dissolution of the Portuguese parliament.
The official visit underscores the commitment of both Portugal and Slovenia to strengthening bilateral ties and fostering collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
