Ahead of the main session, a bilateral meeting was held between the co-chairs of the commission—Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Ukrainian Minister of Energy German Galushchenko. During the meeting, both ministers reaffirmed the strength of Azerbaijani-Ukrainian relations, describing them as rooted in mutual trust and productive partnership.
Minister Galushchenko expressed his deep appreciation for Azerbaijan’s continued humanitarian support, particularly the timely assistance provided through the supply of critical energy equipment to Ukraine. Both sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.
The hybrid-format session of the Governmental Commission reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and explored opportunities for expanded cooperation in politics, economy, trade and industry, energy, transport, information and communication technologies, science and education, culture, and other sectors.
In his remarks, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov emphasized the significance of the adoption of a new Action Plan under the commission. He noted that the plan would help elevate bilateral cooperation to new heights and unlock the full potential of collaboration in key sectors such as energy, minerals, agriculture, industrial parks, and free economic zones.
Highlighting the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties that bind Azerbaijan and Ukraine, Minister Galushchenko underlined Ukraine’s commitment to a strategic partnership with Azerbaijan. He praised Baku for being among the first to provide critical support to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, describing this assistance as vital to his country’s resilience.
“We believe this meeting will serve as a platform for launching new joint initiatives and further reinforce the long-term partnership between our countries,” Galushchenko stated.
Following the session, both sides signed a Protocol on the outcomes of the meeting, reaffirming their shared commitment to enhanced cooperation. It was also agreed that the 14th session of the Governmental Commission on Economic Cooperation will be held in Kyiv.
