Morocco Condemns Israeli Strike on Qatari Territory, Reaffirms Solidarity with Doha

Morocco

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Morocco has joined the United Nations and several countries in strongly condemning Israel’s strike on Qatari territory on Tuesday.

In a statement, Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attack as “heinous” and a grave violation of Qatar’s sovereignty. The statement reaffirmed Rabat’s unwavering solidarity with Doha, stressing support for “anything that may undermine its security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens and residents.”

The strike, described by observers as unprecedented, reportedly targeted Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital, Doha. According to Al Jazeera, the attack occurred as Hamas negotiators were meeting to consider the latest ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States.

Israel claimed responsibility for the strike, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating it was ordered in response to the Jerusalem shooting. He alleged that the targeted Hamas leaders had directed the group’s activities for years and were directly responsible for the October 7 attacks and the ongoing war against Israel.

Qatar strongly condemned the assault, describing it as a “cowardly” and “criminal” act. Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, said the strike constituted a blatant violation of international law and norms, as it targeted residential buildings housing members of Hamas’ Political Bureau in Doha.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also denounced the attack, underscoring Qatar’s key role in mediating ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas. “All parties must work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire, not destroying it,” he stressed.

Pope Leo expressed concerns over the attack and its potential consequences, while the United Kingdom criticized Israel’s action, warning against further escalation of violence in the region.

The incident marks the first known Israeli strike on Qatari territory, raising fears of a broader regional escalation, particularly given Qatar’s critical role as mediator in efforts to halt the war in Gaza.
