Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Chairs Working Session on Preparations for Turkmenistan’s 30th Anniversary of Neutrality

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a working meeting at the Neutrality Monument in Ashgabat to oversee preparations for the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and the 2025 UN-designated International Year of Peace and Trust.
The meeting of the State Organizing Committee, established under a decree by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, brought together senior government officials to review organizational efforts for upcoming national and international events. The discussions centered on ensuring that the celebrations reflect Turkmenistan’s long-standing commitment to peace, diplomacy, and sustainable development.
Arriving at the Neutrality Monument—one of the capital’s most symbolic landmarks—Berdimuhamedov highlighted the monument’s importance as a representation of Turkmenistan’s peaceful and independent foreign policy, harmonizing with the architectural elegance of Ashgabat’s white-marble skyline.
During the session, the National Leader reviewed modernization and construction projects across the capital, including plans to renovate the Neutrality Monument and improve surrounding areas. He stressed the need for a responsible and high-quality approach to reconstruction efforts and instructed that UN flag colors be incorporated into the monument’s design to symbolize Turkmenistan’s international standing and global solidarity.
Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of adhering to strict timelines, maintaining cleanliness and ecological balance, and ensuring the beautification of Ashgabat. Expressing dissatisfaction over delays in city transformation projects, he instructed Hakim of Ashgabat R. Gandyymov to intensify efforts to enhance the capital’s image as a “flowering city.”
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers B. Annanammamedov, responsible for the construction and industrial complex, reported on ongoing projects near the Neutrality Monument, including lighting, landscaping, and transport infrastructure upgrades.
Following the briefing, Berdimuhamedov inspected modernization works at the intersection of Bitarap Turkmenistan and Chandybil avenues, where large-scale improvements to transport systems are underway. He directed that the design of the area should feature symbols of Turkmen neutrality and include the flags of Turkmenistan, the United Nations, and UN member states, underscoring the nation’s global engagement and peaceful diplomacy.
The National Leader underscored that all planned events and infrastructure works must meet modern international standards while respecting national traditions. “As Turkmenistan’s neutrality has been recognized three times by UN General Assembly resolutions, all celebrations must embody both the spirit of the modern era and our enduring cultural values,” he said.
Citing Turkmen proverbs — “Gelen – döwlet” (“A guest brings prosperity”) and “Myhman ataňdan uly” (“A guest is greater than a father”) — Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of upholding Turkmen hospitality during the forthcoming anniversary celebrations, which are expected to be attended by heads of state, government leaders, and high-level international delegations.
He instructed R. Bazarov, Chief of the Halk Maslahaty Apparatus, and D. Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Mejlis, to oversee the organization of international events of political and cultural significance, ensuring all activities align with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s approved directives.
Berdimuhamedov also emphasized that the Museum of Neutrality should dedicate special exhibits to the history of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, including key UN documents and resolutions recognizing its status.
Highlighting the importance of advanced technologies and innovative design in the modernization process, the National Leader said that the monument’s colors and form should express the humanitarian and peaceful nature of Turkmen neutrality.
Concluding the meeting, Berdimuhamedov called for comprehensive coordination among all state institutions to ensure that anniversary events — including meetings, international conferences, and cultural celebrations — are conducted at the highest organizational level. He reiterated that environmental protection, urban beautification, and orderly public management must remain central to the preparations.
The upcoming anniversary celebrations will underscore Turkmenistan’s internationally recognized neutrality, its commitment to peaceful diplomacy, and its vision of progress rooted in tradition, innovation, and national pride.
