Azerbaijan and Thailand Hold First Political Consultations

Bangkok, The Gulf Observer: The first political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand were held in Bangkok, marking an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov, while the Thai delegation was headed by Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Vijavat Isarabhakdi.

At the outset of the consultations, a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Thailand was signed, establishing a formal framework for regular diplomatic dialogue.

The discussions focused on the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for their further development in the political, economic and trade, cultural, and tourism spheres. The sides also underscored the importance of expanding cooperation within multilateral platforms and international organizations.

During the consultations, the Thai side was briefed on Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, ongoing mine clearance efforts in the liberated territories, and the large-scale reconstruction and restoration projects being implemented in those areas.

As part of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov met with Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow. The sides commended the current level of political relations and noted that the opening of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Bangkok, along with the holding of the first political consultations, would further enhance cooperation across various sectors.

Deputy Minister Mammadov also held a meeting with Wanmuhamadnoor Matha, President of the National Assembly of Thailand and Speaker of the House of Representatives. The meeting highlighted the significant role of inter-parliamentary cooperation in advancing bilateral relations, with both sides expressing satisfaction with the effective engagement established within multilateral parliamentary frameworks.

In addition, Deputy Minister Mammadov gave interviews to Thailand’s TNN television channel and the parliament’s television channel. He also attended a commemorative ceremony organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Bangkok marking the Day of Remembrance of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Mammadov delivered a lecture on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities at the King Prajadhipok’s Institute, operating under the Thai Parliament, and responded to questions from participants.
