Dubai

Dubai, The Gulf Observer: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has reaffirmed Dubai’s firm belief in the positive and transformative role of sport in shaping a better future for societies around the world.

His Highness reiterated Dubai’s continued support for international initiatives and collective efforts that strengthen the role of sport at both individual and community levels, emphasising its power to inspire generations, empower communities, and foster global cooperation.

Welcoming participants of the World Sports Summit, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan said that Dubai is honoured to host global sports leaders, presidents of international federations and organisations, investors, policymakers and athletes from diverse disciplines. He noted that the two-day summit will provide a vital platform to discuss the current state and future of global sport and its role in societal development.

Describing the event as a first-of-its-kind initiative originating in the UAE, His Highness said the Summit will unite sports leaders, specialists and professionals with proven leadership and expertise from across the global sports sector. He added that the Summit will serve as a global forum for dialogue on sports development, shaping its future through effective strategic initiatives, legislation and international agreements.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan further stated that through the World Sports Summit, Dubai aims to unify global efforts and establish strong foundations to enhance the role of sport in community empowerment, talent development and international collaboration, while launching pioneering initiatives that contribute to shaping the future of sport.

Held under the patronage and guidance of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the World Sports Summit is organised by the Dubai Sports Council and will take place from 29 to 30 December at Madinat Jumeirah. Under the theme “Uniting the World Through Sport,” the Summit will feature more than 70 speakers, including international sports leaders, stars and legends. The event aligns with the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, particularly in supporting the hosting of major international sporting events and reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading global sports destination.

The Summit will also host the ceremony for the 13th Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award, the largest of its kind in terms of prize value and number of categories. The Award recognises outstanding achievements of sports figures, officials and champions from the UAE, the Arab world and internationally, as well as leading sports institutions that have attained global distinction. It also honours legendary athletes whose enduring contributions continue to inspire future generations.

Meanwhile, participants, speakers and guests have begun arriving in Dubai ahead of the Summit’s opening on December 29. Among the notable attendees is FIFA President Gianni Infantino, alongside prominent stars and legends from various sports.

Guests are already taking part in entertainment and sporting activities organised by the Summit’s Organising Committee, including padel competitions, recreational and family sports events, safari excursions and tours of Dubai’s world-class resorts. A special programme scheduled for December 28 offers opportunities for networking and exploring Dubai’s sports and tourism infrastructure, while arrangements have also been made for international sports stars choosing to celebrate the New Year in Dubai.

The first day of the Summit will feature panel discussions and inspirational addresses by leading sports figures. Proceedings will begin with a speech by H.E. Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, followed by a keynote address by FIFA President Gianni Infantino titled “The Next 90 Minutes.”
