President Tokayev Highlights Role of Maslikhats in Kazakhstan’s Ongoing Reforms

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed participants at the III Republican Forum of Maslikhat Deputies, emphasizing the vital role of local representative bodies in advancing Kazakhstan’s national development and reforms, the Akorda press office reported.
In his remarks, President Tokayev expressed appreciation to all speakers at the forum, noting that their proposals and ideas would be carefully considered in future policymaking. He underscored the significance of the gathering, which brought together local government representatives from across the country.
Approximately 2,000 maslikhat deputies attended the forum, representing the interests of millions of citizens across Kazakhstan. The president highlighted that these deputies work closely with local communities and possess firsthand knowledge of the needs and concerns of the population.
“As the Head of State, I consistently pay close attention to the work you are doing,” Tokayev said, commending the deputies for their direct engagement with citizens and their contribution to effective governance.
The president noted that such forums provide an important platform to evaluate the effectiveness of regional policies and address pressing issues facing the country. He stressed that Kazakhstan is currently undergoing large-scale and historic transformations aimed at improving the welfare of its people.
Tokayev said the country has embarked on a deep modernization of its public administration system, economy, and social sphere. Within this process, maslikhats — local representative bodies — have been entrusted with a special mission.
Strengthening representative government institutions, he said, remains a key priority of public policy. Under the guiding principle of “Strong Regions, Strong Country,” the government has expanded the authority and role of maslikhats, enabling them to become one of the central institutions of the state.
However, the president acknowledged that further work remains to fully unlock the potential of these bodies and enhance their effectiveness in serving citizens and supporting regional development.
