International Travelers Visit Shusha to Witness Restoration and Cultural Heritage Revival

Shusha, The Gulf Observer: A delegation of international travelers, led by Harry Mitsidis, founder and head of the NomadMania, visited the historic city of Shusha as part of a broader tour of Garabagh and East Zangezur.
The group, comprising 79 travelers from 37 countries, began their visit at Shusha’s central square, where they viewed the bullet-scarred statues of prominent Azerbaijani cultural figures, including Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
During the visit, the delegation received detailed briefings on the history of Shusha, the impact of the nearly three-decade-long occupation, and the extensive reconstruction efforts currently underway. Officials highlighted that many of the city’s historical buildings, mosques, and monuments suffered significant damage during the occupation period. Following its liberation, the Azerbaijan government initiated large-scale restoration and infrastructure development projects aimed at preserving Shusha’s cultural heritage while modernizing the city.
The visitors toured several key landmarks, including the house of Khurshidbanu Natavan, the “Khan Gizi” spring, the historic Shusha Fortress walls, and the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque.
The visit is considered significant in promoting the liberated territories within the framework of “dark tourism” and highlighting the progress of ongoing reconstruction and restoration initiatives. Between 2020 and 2025, major international travel clubs organized 15 visits to Garabagh and East Zangezur, with the current trip marking the 16th such visit.
