Oman’s Sultan, Iranian FM Discuss Regional Crisis and Mediation Efforts in Muscat

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Muscat on Sunday, focusing on the evolving regional situation and ongoing mediation efforts aimed at ending the conflict between the United States and Iran.

According to Oman’s state news agency, the meeting included comprehensive consultations on recent developments in the region, diplomatic mediation initiatives, and broader efforts to de-escalate tensions and resolve ongoing conflicts.

In a statement posted by Oman’s Foreign Ministry on X, Sultan Haitham was briefed on Tehran’s perspective regarding the current situation. The ministry noted that Minister Araghchi also listened to the Sultan’s views on advancing diplomatic efforts in a way that enhances prospects for sustainable political solutions and mitigates the humanitarian impact of regional crises.

The Sultan underscored the importance of prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional challenges, emphasizing that such an approach is essential for strengthening the foundations of peace and stability.

For his part, Araghchi expressed Iran’s appreciation for Oman’s constructive role in supporting dialogue and facilitating mediation efforts, highlighting Muscat’s contributions toward promoting regional security and stability.

A separate statement from the Iranian government confirmed that the discussions also covered bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest between the two countries.

Oman has long played a key mediatory role in regional diplomacy, particularly in facilitating dialogue between rival states, as tensions continue to shape the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.
