Romania Reaffirms Strategic Partnership with U.S. Amid Security Concerns and Economic Cooperation Talks

Romania

Bucharest, The Gulf Observer: Romania has reiterated the importance of its strategic partnership with the United States, emphasizing its critical role in ensuring national and regional security, Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu said following high-level discussions with U.S. Secretary of Land Forces Daniel P. Driscoll.

In a statement, the Romanian foreign minister noted that the meeting addressed key security challenges, including the significance of the American military presence in Romania to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank. The discussions also focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in response to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

Țoiu revealed that Romanian authorities briefed the U.S. official on a recent incident involving a Russian drone that violated Romanian airspace. She described the breach as unprecedented, noting that drone fragments fell in a populated area, prompting emergency intervention by specialists to safely detonate the explosive payload.

Beyond security matters, both sides explored opportunities to deepen economic ties and accelerate joint investments. Particular emphasis was placed on expanding cooperation in the defence industry, where significant potential for industrial collaboration exists.

Reaffirming Romania’s commitment to its allies, the foreign minister stated that the country remains a reliable and active partner within NATO, dedicated to fulfilling alliance objectives.

She added that Romania will continue to work closely with U.S. representatives, including Ambassador Darryl Nirenberg and his team, to ensure that shared security and development priorities are effectively advanced.
