Turkmenistan-Initiated Resolution Approved by United Nations General Assembly

New York, The Gulf Observer: The United Nations General Assembly has unanimously adopted a new resolution titled “The Role and Importance of a Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development” during the 82nd plenary meeting of its 80th session held on May 20, 2026.
The resolution, initiated by Turkmenistan, received broad international support and was co-sponsored by 47 member states, reflecting growing recognition of neutrality as an important instrument for promoting peace, dialogue, and sustainable development.
The adopted document underscores the efforts of the Government of Turkmenistan in advancing and institutionalizing dialogue on neutrality, preventive diplomacy, and peace in line with the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter.
The resolution highlights the significance of neutrality as a means of strengthening international cooperation, fostering mutual trust among nations, and supporting peaceful conflict prevention and resolution.
As a permanently neutral state, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to continuing practical initiatives aimed at promoting constructive cooperation, mutual understanding, and respectful dialogue at both regional and global levels.
According to the resolution, such principles are regarded as essential foundations for ensuring international stability, sustainable development, and long-term peace in an increasingly interconnected world.
