Somon Air Receives First Boeing 737-8 MAX as Tajikistan Expands Civil Aviation Fleet

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Tajikistan has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft for the fleet of Somon Air, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to modernize its civil aviation sector and expand air transportation capacity.

According to the Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the new aircraft was added to Somon Air’s fleet as part of ongoing initiatives supported by President Emomali Rahmon to strengthen the country’s aviation industry and improve connectivity.

The newly delivered Boeing 737-8 MAX has been named “Abu Ali Ibn Sina” in honor of the renowned Tajik scholar, philosopher, and medieval physician, widely known in the West as Avicenna.

The Civil Aviation Agency noted that Tajikistan’s aviation sector has experienced significant progress in recent years, driven by the continued support of President Rahmon. Authorities have implemented a series of measures aimed at enhancing the quality of aviation services, modernizing the national fleet, and expanding international air links.

The agency also emphasized that it is utilizing all available opportunities to broaden the country’s flight network while strengthening cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and civil aviation authorities around the world.

Officials said the addition of the Boeing 737-8 MAX is expected to enhance Somon Air’s operational capabilities, improve passenger services, and support the continued development of Tajikistan’s air transport infrastructure.
