Philippine Ambassador Hosts Dinner for ASEAN Colleagues in Islamabad to Mark 59th ASEAN Day
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Philippine Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez and Mme. Alice Kalaw-Fernandez hosted a dinner for fellow ASEAN Ambassadors and High Commissioners and their spouses at the Marriott Hotel Islamabad to commemorate the 59th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The gathering was attended by the Ambassadors and High Commissioners of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand, providing an opportunity for ASEAN Heads of Mission in Islamabad to celebrate the organization’s shared achievements and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation.
In his remarks in his capacity as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI), Ambassador Fernandez highlighted ASEAN’s significant accomplishments over the past 59 years and underscored the importance of continued unity, solidarity and cooperation among ASEAN Member States.
He reaffirmed the enduring ASEAN principles of respect for sovereignty and independence, as well as non-interference in the internal affairs of member states. He stressed that ASEAN should continue to prioritize dialogue over conflict, peace over war and cooperation over division as the region confronts emerging challenges and opportunities.
The dinner also served as an occasion for ASEAN diplomatic representatives to strengthen bonds of friendship and solidarity and reinforce their shared commitment to navigating the future together.
The event marked the 59th ASEAN Day, celebrating nearly six decades of regional cooperation and ASEAN’s continuing role in promoting peace, stability and prosperity among its member states.
