Arkadag FC Qualifies for AFC Champions League 2 Group Stage
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was informed during a working visit to Arkadag city that the Arkadag football club had qualified for the group stage of the 2026-27 AFC Champions League 2, according to Turkmen state media.
Arkadag secured its place in the group stage after defeating India’s Goa 3-0. Coached by Vladimir Bayramov, the Turkmen club will represent the country in the group stage of Asia’s second-tier club competition for the second consecutive year.
During the visit, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the state was creating the necessary conditions for the development of football and the advancement of Turkmenistan’s sports achievements at the international level. He expressed confidence that Arkadag FC would continue to achieve success and secure further victories.
As part of his working visit, Berdimuhamedov also reviewed designs for facilities planned under the second phase of construction in Arkadag city and held a working meeting with relevant officials.
The plans included the construction of a specialized foreign-language school, a 320-seat kindergarten and a sports complex. Berdimuhamedov recommended equipping classrooms at the new school, including language laboratories, in accordance with international standards and incorporating advanced international practices.
He emphasized the need to accelerate construction works during the second phase while ensuring high-quality completion of all facilities and their timely commissioning. He underlined the importance of the new school in promoting foreign-language education among young people and strengthening their engagement with global scientific developments.
Berd Berdimuhamedov was also informed that a new mosque in Arkadag, with a capacity of 30,000 worshippers, had officially been named “Arkadagyň Ruhy Metjidi.” The decision on the mosque’s name has been formally registered.
A proposal to grant the madrassa being constructed adjacent to the mosque the status of a higher educational institution was also supported by Berdimuhamedov.
At the conclusion of his visit, the National Leader of the Turkmen people visited the Ruhyyet Palace in Arkadag, where he reviewed preparations and facilities for hosting international events.
Officials reported that Arkadag city is continuing to strengthen its role as a venue for international forums, conferences and other major events, reflecting the city’s growing importance as a modern administrative, cultural and international platform.
