Tokayev, Ban Ki-moon Discuss UN Reform and Sustainable Development in Seoul

Seoul, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during his state visit to the Republic of Korea, with the two sides discussing UN reform, sustainable development and the global climate agenda.
Ban Ki-moon, who currently serves as Chairman of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), highlighted the importance of the institute’s efforts to support developing countries in transitioning towards green growth models that promote social stability, climate resilience and economic development.
President Tokayev and Ban Ki-moon exchanged views on opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the field of sustainable development. Ban welcomed Kazakhstan’s achievements in advancing sustainable development and expressed his readiness to further enhance cooperation within the framework of the global climate agenda.
The two sides also discussed reform of the United Nations and the need to adapt the organization to contemporary global realities and emerging international challenges.
The meeting took place as President Tokayev is visiting South Korea at the invitation of President Lee Jae Myung. The visit forms part of Kazakhstan’s efforts to deepen bilateral and international cooperation and strengthen engagement on issues of global significance.
