President Zardari Pays Tribute to Teachers, Calls for Greater Investment in Teaching Profession

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday extended his greetings and appreciation to teachers in Pakistan and around the world for their invaluable contribution to education, human development and nation-building.
In his message on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, observed on October 5, the President said teachers were central to every education system as they impart knowledge, nurture curiosity, shape character and help young people develop the skills and values needed to become responsible and productive members of society.
He said the influence of teachers extended beyond classrooms and was reflected in the lives of families and communities.
President Zardari noted that this year’s observance was particularly significant as it marked the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.
He said the theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” highlighted the need to recognise the importance of teachers and provide them with the professional support and opportunities necessary to perform their responsibilities effectively.
“For Pakistan, strengthening the teaching profession is essential to improving the quality of education and expanding opportunities for our children and young people,” the President said.
He stressed the need for continued investment in teacher education, professional development and supportive learning environments to enable teachers to respond effectively to the changing needs of students.
The President also highlighted the impact of technological advancements, including the growing use of artificial intelligence, on education.
He said technology could support teaching and learning but could not replace the human qualities teachers brought to classrooms, including empathy, mentorship, ethical guidance and the ability to understand and inspire students.
He called for teachers to be supported in adopting and using emerging technologies while maintaining the human relationship between teachers and students at the heart of education.
President Zardari particularly acknowledged the dedication of teachers serving in remote, underserved and challenging communities.
“For many children, the quality of their education depends directly on the commitment of the teacher in their school,” he said, stressing that ensuring such teachers had adequate training, resources and suitable working conditions was essential to providing every child with a fair opportunity to learn and progress.
The President called upon governments, educational institutions, parents, communities, civil society and the private sector to work collectively to strengthen and respect the teaching profession.
He said supporting teachers was an investment in Pakistan’s education and future.
President Zardari paid tribute to all Pakistani teachers for their dedication, patience and service, saying their work shaped the knowledge, character and aspirations of generations that would contribute to the development of the country.
He concluded by praying for the blessings of Allah Almighty upon teachers and guidance in collective efforts to provide every child with quality education.
