Turkish Security Forces Neutralise Four PKK/YPG Terrorists in Northern Syria
Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish security forces have successfully “neutralised” four PKK/YPG terrorists in a targeted operation in northern Syria, as announced by the country’s National Defence Ministry.
The operation, conducted in the Euphrates Shield region, thwarted an imminent attack planned by the PKK/YPG militants. The term “neutralise” is employed by Turkish authorities to encompass various outcomes, including the surrender, capture, or elimination of the terrorists.
Ankara has been actively engaged in anti-terror operations across its northern Syria border since 2016, executing successful campaigns such as Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019). These operations aim to prevent the establishment of a terror corridor and facilitate the peaceful settlement of residents in the region.
The PKK, designated as a terrorist organization by Turkiye, the United States, and the European Union, has been orchestrating a terror campaign against Turkey for over 35 years. The group is responsible for over 40,000 deaths, including women, children, and infants. PKK terrorists frequently use northern Iraq as a base for planning cross-border attacks into Turkiye and northern Syria.
The YPG, identified as the Syrian branch of the PKK, is involved in activities that pose a threat to locals and Turkish soldiers in the region, aiming to destabilize the area. The Turkish security forces remain vigilant in their efforts to counteract terrorist activities and ensure the safety and stability of the region.
