Azerbaijan’s First Vice-President’s Social-Political Initiatives Commended at Asian Women’s Forum

Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: At the recent Asian Women’s Forum held in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, lauded the significant contributions of Azerbaijan’s First Vice-President, Mehriban Aliyeva, towards the advancement of women and the progress of the nation.

In her address, Gafarova underscored the pivotal role played by Aliyeva in fostering social and political initiatives that exemplify the invaluable contributions of women to Azerbaijani society and its development trajectory, as reported by media.

Gafarova also shed light on Azerbaijan’s endeavors in safeguarding and expanding women’s rights, highlighting the extensive measures and accomplishments achieved in this realm. She particularly emphasized the comprehensive construction and restoration endeavors undertaken by Azerbaijan post-liberation of territories previously under Armenian occupation.

Touching upon the return of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes, Gafarova delineated that one of the central objectives of the I State Program on the Great Return is to create ample employment opportunities for women residing in these areas.

Furthermore, Gafarova spotlighted Azerbaijan’s forthcoming role as the host nation for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29) to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29). She expressed Azerbaijan’s pride in undertaking this prestigious international responsibility and affirmed the nation’s steadfast commitment to ensuring the seamless execution of the event.

In emphasizing the importance of gender inclusivity in addressing climate change challenges, Gafarova emphasized Azerbaijan’s concerted efforts in facilitating the active participation of women in the Organizing Committee of COP29. This initiative reflects Azerbaijan’s unwavering resolve to empower women and engage them meaningfully in combating climate change on a global scale.
