President Tokayev Emphasizes Maternal and Child Health as a State Priority
Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met today with Gulnar Nurlanova, Director of the Center of Perinatology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, highlighting the nation’s commitment to maternal and child health according to the Akorda press service.
During their discussion, President Tokayev identified the protection of maternal and child health as a central priority for the state. He emphasized the critical tasks facing Kazakhstan’s healthcare system, including improving the availability and quality of medical care for pregnant women and children, reducing maternal and child mortality, and early detection and prevention of disabilities in children.
The President underscored the importance of enhancing the infrastructure of maternity homes and integrating advanced standards and methods into their operations.
Gulnar Nurlanova briefed President Tokayev on the activities, achievements, and ongoing projects of the Center of Perinatology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery. She highlighted that the Center is the only institution in Kazakhstan providing a comprehensive cycle of care for patients with congenital heart defects, performing up to 200 cardiac surgeries annually. The Center also manages approximately 9,000 births each year, including around 3,700 premature births.
Nurlanova informed the President about the launch of a groundbreaking fetal surgery project, which involves intrauterine operations to correct congenital malformations, offering the potential for the birth of healthy children.
President Tokayev also addressed the support for healthcare professionals, underscoring the significance of their work for society. He referenced the recently signed law aimed at protecting the interests of health workers and elevating the status of medical practice, as well as the establishment of the state award “Kazakhstannyn Enbek Sinirgen Darigeri” to honor distinguished medical professionals.
The President extended his best wishes to Gulnar Nurlanova and all health workers, commending their noble efforts and dedication to improving healthcare in Kazakhstan.
