President Jokowi Directs Defense Minister to Establish Field Hospital in Gaza

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, has instructed Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to dispatch health workers and construct a field hospital in Gaza, Palestine. This directive was issued following a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

“I reported to Mr. President, and he gave me an instruction. We are ready to provide a hospital and send our health workers to Gaza,” Prabowo informed the press.

The initiative, aimed at aiding the local population in Gaza, will be carried out in collaboration with Middle Eastern countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE, which already operates a hospital in Gaza, will work alongside Indonesia to facilitate the evacuation and treatment of residents affected by ongoing conflicts.

Additionally, President Jokowi has tasked Prabowo with attending a meeting in Jordan to discuss the current conditions in Gaza and to visit Saudi Arabia as part of this diplomatic and humanitarian effort.

During the Thursday meeting, Prabowo also briefed President Jokowi on his recent visit to Singapore, where he attended the 2024 Shangri-La Dialogue. There, he engaged with several world leaders, including the newly appointed Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to discuss various global security issues.

This concerted effort by the Indonesian government underscores its commitment to international humanitarian assistance and solidarity with the people of Gaza.
