South Sumatra Government and VWSA Sign MoU on Clean Water Management

Palembang, The Gulf Observer: The Provincial Government of South Sumatra and the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) have officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on the management of local clean water resources. The agreement was formalized by South Sumatra Acting Governor Agus Fatoni and VWSA Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Diep in a ceremony held in Palembang City on Saturday, June 22.

“We gladly welcomed VWSA’s visit. We discussed further the potential for bilateral water cooperation as well as the management of drinking water,” Fatoni noted in a statement from his office in Palembang on Sunday.

The signing of the MoU marks a significant step towards enhancing cooperation in the water sector between South Sumatra and Vietnam. The provincial government also hosted the Vietnamese delegation during a visit to PT TSM, a regional government-owned drinking water company in Palembang.

“It is important to continue pursuing such cooperation and expanding it to cover the areas of human resources and technology as well as other aspects,” Fatoni stated, emphasizing the broader scope of potential collaboration.

Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Diep highlighted the strong and harmonious relations between Vietnam and Indonesia, noting that Indonesia is one of the largest economies in Southeast Asia. As a G20 nation, Indonesia’s economic and demographic significance is considerable within the region.

Nguyen remarked on the fruitful investment cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the technology sector, where mutual investments have reached approximately US$8 million. He suggested exploring further opportunities for investment in the water industry.

The Vietnamese delegation expressed optimism that VWSA’s visit to South Sumatra would lead to improved management and provision of clean water, benefiting both regions.

This MoU is expected to foster stronger bilateral ties and promote sustainable water management practices, contributing to the well-being of communities in South Sumatra and Vietnam.
