Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan Presidents Visit Historic Poi-Kalyan Complex in Bukhara
Bukhara, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva and their family members visited the historic Poi-Kalyan Complex in Bukhara on August 24.
The name of the architectural complex means “the pedestal of the Great.” It is one of Bukhara’s most prominent historical and cultural landmarks.
One of the complex’s principal monuments, the Kalyan Minaret, was constructed in 1127 and remains an important symbol of the city’s rich architectural heritage.
The Kalyan Mosque, another major monument within the complex, is the largest mosque in Bukhara. Built in the 16th century, the mosque has a capacity of up to 12,000 worshippers.
The complex also includes the Mir-i Arab Madrasah, a renowned religious educational institution dating back to the 16th century. It was built by Abdullah Yamani, widely known as Mir-i Arab.
The visit highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Bukhara’s architectural heritage and its enduring place in the cultural history of the region.
