Azerbaijan Marks 27th Anniversary of Special Forces with Nationwide Commemorative Events

Baku, The Gulf Observer: A series of commemorative events were held across Azerbaijan to mark the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the country’s Special Forces, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The observances began with senior leadership of the Special Forces, along with a group of servicemen, visiting the bust of National Leader Heydar Aliyev located within a military unit. They also paid tribute at a memorial complex dedicated to fallen martyrs, laying flowers and honoring their sacrifices.
The main ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Military Prosecutor’s Office, active-duty officers, warrant officers, and both reserve and retired Special Forces personnel. Participants observed a minute of silence in memory of Heydar Aliyev and those who gave their lives in defense of the nation, followed by the performance of the national anthem.
Messages of congratulations from the leadership of the Ministry of Defense were conveyed during the event. Speakers highlighted the history and development of the Special Forces, established under the directives of the National Leader, and underscored the valor demonstrated by Azerbaijani servicemen during the liberation of previously occupied territories.
It was emphasized that President of Azerbaijan and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev attaches significant importance to the Special Forces. Officials noted that the bravery exhibited by Special Forces personnel during the 44-day Patriotic War and subsequent operations continues to be highly recognized at the highest levels.
Veterans of the Special Forces reaffirmed their readiness to fulfill any orders of the Commander-in-Chief, pledging continued service to the nation with honor and dedication. They also shared reflections on their experiences and expressed pride in their service.
A documentary video showcasing the achievements and legacy of the Special Forces was presented as part of the program.
In addition to the main ceremony, servicemen visited the graves of martyrs and met with their families to inquire about their well-being and needs. Families of the fallen expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev, First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, and the Ministry of Defense for their continued support and care.
The events also included the awarding of distinguished servicemen in recognition of their exemplary service. A tree-planting campaign was organized to commemorate the anniversary, symbolizing growth, resilience, and the enduring legacy of the Special Forces.
