Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has paid tribute to the sacrifices and heroism of the Tajik people during World War II, marking the 81st anniversary of Victory Day over fascism.

In a message addressed to the nation, President Rahmon congratulated war veterans, home front workers, and the people of Tajikistan, emphasizing that Victory Day remains a symbol of courage, peace, justice, and humanity for nations around the world.

The Tajik president noted that World War II affected nearly 80 percent of the world’s population and claimed millions of lives. He highlighted the significant contribution made by Tajikistan, stating that more than 300,000 citizens from the republic were mobilized to the front during the war despite the country’s population being only 1.5 million at the time.

According to the president, more than 100,000 Tajik soldiers lost their lives on the battlefield, while around 40,000 were reported missing. He added that 58,000 Tajik servicemen received military orders and medals for bravery, while 55 individuals were awarded the prestigious title of “Hero of the Soviet Union.”

President Rahmon also praised the sacrifices made on the home front, noting that women, children, and the elderly worked tirelessly under severe wartime conditions to support the war effort. He said Tajikistan continued supplying food, clothing, and financial assistance to the front despite facing shortages itself.

The president further recalled that during the war, Tajikistan welcomed more than 100,000 evacuees, mostly women and children, from conflict-affected regions, offering them refuge and support.

Reflecting on current global tensions, President Rahmon warned that increasing geopolitical confrontations, armed conflicts, terrorism, extremism, and growing military rivalries pose serious threats to international peace and stability.

Drawing on Tajikistan’s own experience of civil war after independence, he stressed the importance of preserving peace, political stability, national unity, and statehood, while reaffirming Tajikistan’s commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful means.

President Rahmon expressed confidence that the people of Tajikistan, particularly the younger generation, would continue to value and safeguard peace, unity, independence, and national stability.

Concluding his message, the Tajik leader extended his congratulations to war veterans, labor veterans, and all citizens on the 81st anniversary of Victory Day, wishing them good health, prosperity, and lasting peace for Tajikistan.
