Indonesia Strengthens Global Presence as a Creative Industry Hub

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia has transformed from merely a consumer market for toys and comics into a significant global producer and innovator, according to Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar.
Speaking at the Jakarta 20th Toys & Comics Fair, held at Balai Kartini on February 8-9, 2025, Umar emphasized that Indonesia’s creative industry is gaining international recognition, with local creators expanding their influence beyond national borders.
This year’s exhibition featured 200 booths, with 25 percent representing international participants, further underscoring Indonesia’s growing role as a hub for the global creative industry.
“Today, we see 200 booths, of which 25 percent come from abroad. This proves that Indonesia is not just a market but a globally recognized creator,” Umar stated in an official ministry release on Sunday.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to the creative economy, Umar described the ministry as a “New Engine of Growth” that drives economic progress. She reaffirmed that the government is dedicated to empowering local creators, ensuring they not only thrive domestically but also establish a strong presence in global markets.
“We will continue providing facilitation, training, and support to enhance creators’ competitiveness and expand their businesses internationally,” she added.
Meanwhile, Riza Satyagraha, a representative of the Jakarta 20th Toys & Comics Fair, acknowledged the significance of government support in advancing Indonesia’s toy and comic industry.
“For 20 years, we have faced numerous challenges that require attention. The presence of the Ministry of Creative Economy here is a fresh breath for us,” Satyagraha remarked.
With increasing global recognition and government backing, Indonesia’s creative sector is poised for greater international success in the coming years.
